Carnegie Hall
Carnegie Hall Website
Carnegie Hall is one of the most famous concert halls in the world but their website was in need of a refresh. This project provided a rich opportunity to learn about senior users and their unique needs, and gets to the heart of why I love what I do.
ROLES: Research, UX Design, UI Design
understanding the senior user
Carnegie Hall’s primary user base was adults 60+ years old
Between the ages of 25 and 60, the time users need to complete website tasks increased by 0.8% per year
Legibility and the ability to understand where and what to click to complete a task became more of a priority with senior users than other user groups
Dexterity is also an important consideration, as users over 60 often have trouble navigating pull-down or fly-out menus if their mouse and trackpad motions are less stable
Senior users rely on search more than other age demographics
ADDRESSING PAIN POINTS
Proposed designs were mindful of accommodating seniors without alienating other users
Links and clickable areas were clearly demarcated
A text size adjuster could be used to make the font smaller or larger
The main menu had functionality that was easy to navigate with an unsteady hand
Any menus that appeared on hover were accompanied by alternative means of navigation, such as on the calendar page
The search function was placed at the top for easy access
